Plant Drinks To Lower Sugar

When a person is told they have hyperglycemia, they often recommend that they make certain changes to their diet. In their mood to improve, the person may ask the following question: are there plants that help lower sugar?

Over the years, various investigations have been carried out to find out if any natural element can provide health benefits and, specifically, with respect to the control of sugar levels.

Plants and their medicinal potential

There are some plants that, in studies in rodents, have been shown to have beneficial effects on health and sugar control. An example of this is the cinnamon tree. Both in its stem and in its bark and other parts it has compounds with medicinal potential.

Regarding the use of plants as a complement to the treatment prescribed by the doctor, in a review published in 2015 in the journal Community Pharmaceuticals, the researchers pointed out the following:

On the other hand, the researchers point out that many of the studies that exist on plants with medicinal potential for the treatment of diabetes and related issues are poorly designed, include few human patients and provide heterogeneous results, with which, it is done very difficult to determine a utility.

Most health experts share this point of view. For this reason, many recommend not combining the treatment prescribed with drinks or herbal remedies (of any kind).

This is not to say that the potential that plants, foods or other issues may have has been ruled out, but rather that much more research is needed to approve their use in certain settings (such as treatment to control blood sugar, for example). Failure to do so may put the health of patients at risk.

Plant drinks to lower sugar

In the popular sphere, various drinks made with plants have been recommended to lower blood sugar. For the most part, they come to be variants of cinnamon tea. Let’s see some of them below.

Cinnamon oat milk

Both oats and cinnamon are foods of plant origin that can be combined in a light, relaxing drink with a very pleasant taste, which could also be taken both hot and cold.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of oatmeal (105 g).
  • 2 liters of water (8 cups).
  • 1 cinnamon stick (optional).

Preparation

  • Soak the oats in the two liters of water for 12 hours.
  • After the indicated time, strain the soaked oatmeal and add it along with the cinnamon to the blender glass.
  • Consume in moderation, at most twice a day.

Note: there are those who consider that Masala chai an Indian drink consisting of a mixture of tea with spices and aromatic herbs, can also be beneficial.

Chamomile and cinnamon

According to some studies, chamomile may be helpful in lowering sugar. For this reason, there are those who recommend consuming it as an infusion, along with a little fresh cinnamon.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of water (250 ml).
  • 1 tablespoon of chamomile flowers (10 g).
  • ½ tablespoon of ground cinnamon (or a cinnamon stick).

Preparation

  • Bring the water to a boil and add the chamomile and cinnamon.
  • Let it infuse over low heat, for about 3-4 minutes.
  • Consume in moderation. Never more than two cups a day.

    Sesame and coconut milk

Another plant drink to lower sugar is the one made from coconut milk and sesame seeds.

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup of sesame seeds (200 g).
    • 1 liter of natural coconut milk (4 cups).

    Preparation

    • Place the sesame seeds in a hot pan and cook a little over medium heat until it turns a golden color.
    • Next, the toasted sesame seeds must be ground until a homogeneous mass is obtained.
    • Dissolve the product in the coconut milk.
    • Consume in moderation.

    Recommendations on medicinal drinks

Before consuming any drink or natural remedy, consult your doctor to avoid interactions with medications, foods and various adverse reactions.

Also, keep in mind that the doctor will be able to tell you how much of a drink you can consume daily and why. Be sure to follow their advice, since indiscriminate consumption of natural drinks (even if they seem harmless to you) can be risky and counterproductive.

For example, if you consume a drink that is not suitable for you, instead of helping you lower your blood sugar, it can increase it and cause complications.

    • Never mix several ‘medicinal’ drinks at the same time, as they will not give you more benefits and may actually cause you discomfort.
    • Although it seems obvious, it is always good to remember that: it is NOT advisable to sweeten drinks.
    • Natural drinks are not going to ‘eliminate’ the excesses that you have committed by eating pastries or sweets. They are not going to give you an immediate and magical solution either, and they are not going to ‘balance’ the body after a heavy meal.
    • Always maintain a balanced diet and adequate hydration. And if you have questions about how to do it, ask your doctor.
    • Avoid consuming edibles that do not contribute anything good to your health, such as pastries, fried foods, sweets, etc.

Today, many people have high blood sugar levels due to a combination of poor diet and other factors, such as genetics. Therefore, it is important to have regular medical check-ups and try to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Plant drinks to lower sugar can be a supplement to the diet, as long as the doctor authorizes it. In case this is the case, you have to make a moderate consumption.
